John has been successfully elected as Councillor for Tarvin and Kelsall Ward in the 2019 Local Elections.
John has lived in Kelsall since 1979 when he joined Thornton Research Centre as a Senior Scientist. His career has included periods working in science, international marketing, troubleshooting in the North Sea, government relations and in the development of company strategy. One of John’s more interesting jobs was to liaise with the McLaren Formula One racing team, although somehow he never found time to go and watch a race.
In 1990 John was seconded into the Cabinet Office to work on aspects of national science policy; an interesting time which included the Gulf War and the outbreak of Mad Cow Disease. He subsequently spent several years working with the CBI and other national committees.
Alongside his wife, Heather, John has always been involved in community activities from playgroups and school governance to the Women’s Institute and the local golf society, and he was elected to a parish council for the first time in 2003. He found this work rewarding and was subsequently elected to the Tarvin and Kelsall ward in 2011 alongside his colleague, Councillor Hugo Deynem. Now, John will serve the community alongside fellow Conservative Councillor, Harry Tonge.
