Sue Langley

Councillor for Darnhall, Swanlow and Dene

Sue, you were born and bred in Winsford and have been active in the community for years, but this is the first time you’ve ever stood for election to the Council. What made you decide to become a Conservative candidate now?

I needed to find a different way of helping the community I’ve lived in all my life. Our family farm machinery business is pretty well known (I’m the Company Secretary)…I’ve done a fair old bit of charity fund-raising locally,  and I was also the Parish Clerk for Whitegate for five years…so it was time to see what else I could do to help. Also, my family said I’d regret it if I didn’t have a go!

Describe yourself in three words.

Can’t sit still

Why do you want to serve the people of Swanlow, Darnhall and Dean?

I already am, in a number of ways. My husband Richard and I are on the Darnhall Village Hall Committee and help with the fund raising for the hall and organising the Darnhall Village day. I just want to represent the interests of individuals and the community as a whole. I want to take their issues to the right place and see what can be done.

One thing you most want to achieve as a Councillor?

If elected as a councillor I would like to become more involved with the re-development of Winsford Shopping Centre. Also, I’m big on re-cycling. I’d like to make it easier for us all to do it and I’d like to make the process more efficient.

What should be on your epitaph?

Once, when I left an organisation, they told me they’d need four people to replace me. That’s a nice epitaph!

What are we least likely to hear you say?

No. I’m renowned for never saying that word!

What do you understand by The Big Society?

It’s been going on for years – people doing things for themselves and for other people. Let’s just encourage it to grow bigger and bigger.
