Eveleigh Moore Dutton

Councillor for Tarporley

Eveleigh, how is it that you always seem to fit 28 hours into every day…and you still have time to want to serve your neighbours in Tarporley as their Councillor?

I’m the daughter of a dairy farmer and a midwife and two of my three children are in the armed forces; this isn’t the sort of background that sits easily with the concept of a 9 to 5 existence.

Although I was born in Zimbabwe, I’ve lived in rural Cheshire for nearly 30 years and raised my three children here. I was a Chester City Councillor for nine years and for eight of them I was also a County Councillor. I truly enjoy getting things done - things that make people happier and communities stronger. Like most Mums, I’m used to being busy…I was also the director of a family business, a school governor and a member of Cheshire Fire Authority!

Describe yourself in three words.

Campaigner. Political activist.

Why do you want to serve the people of Tarporley?

Tarporley is a delightful and thriving community – I know because I live there! But it didn’t happen by accident and it cannot be taken for granted. I will always look out for their best interests

One thing you most want to achieve as a Councillor.

In the past, I’ve campaigned for improvements to the Ambulance Service, better road safety, against closures of local hospitals, against the proposals to build a car park over Chester's Roman Amphitheatre and much more….so it’s impossible to single out only one aim.

What would you like to be your epitaph?

She hated injustice

What are we least likely ever to hear you say?

Someone else can do it.

What does the Big Society mean to you?

I have always marvelled at the number of people I meet who do their bit for their communities whether it is being a reading mum at the local school, a parish councillor, a first responder or a local magistrate they all play a part in making this a better, safer, more pleasant place. Too often rules and regulations get in the way of volunteers or discourage them and if the ‘Big Society’ is to be successful, we must remove these unnecessary obstacles.
