Eleanor Johnson

Councillor for Gowy

Eleanor, you really put the “Oh!” into local, don’t you?

Thank you! I was born and bred in Barrow and I’ve raised four children here, so I suppose you could say that. I come from a family which has farmed round here for five or six generations, so I know people and understand their feelings, pretty well.

And you’ve been serving them for a long time too?

Yes, I was elected to the former Chester City Council in 1994 and was the Conservative spokesman on Housing. On Cheshire West & Chester Council I’m Chair of the Every Child Matters select panel; I’m Champion for Looked After Children…and the In Bloom project!

Describe yourself in three words.

I’m always there.

Why do you want to serve the people of Gowy?

I like helping people – plain and simple. I also believe that small things mean a lot to people, and it’s the small things that often get overlooked.

One thing you most want to achieve as a Councillor?

I am fighting and want to continue to fight against unauthorised development in the green belt, such as travellers’ camps and wind turbines.

What should be on your epitaph?

She was always there for us.

What are we least likely to hear you say?

No.

What do you understand by The Big Society?

It’s what is already going on in villages and parishes – people doing things without needing to be asked.

Eleanor is a local person serving you all year round not just at elections

Cheshire West & Chester Council was formed on 1st April 2009 under Conservative Leadership and has been working hard on your behalf saving over £50m. These savings mean Council tax has stayed below inflation, and this year we will freeze Council Tax.

Eleanor was born and brought up in the ward, she is married to Derek and they raised their family in Barrow.

Eleanor has fought long and hard to stop unauthorised development on the Green Belt, and has continually asked for everyone to be treated equally on planning matters.
