Green Jobs & Energy Bills
Eddisbury MP Stephen O’Brien has welcomed the announcement of Conservative plans to create new jobs, keep fuel bills down and protect the environment. The blueprint for a Conservative Government was laid out in the new policy document - a plan for a ‘low carbon economy’.
This new policy announcement comes as official figures show that 415,000 households in the North West are in fuel poverty – the highest of any region in England - a massive increase of 133% since 2003.
Welcoming the new policy announcement Stephen O’Brien said: “Conservative Plans to create new jobs in the green economy and bring down energy bills for pensioners and those on modest incomes is very timely as the latest figures show that the North West tops the fuel poverty league of shame.
“415,000 households in the North West, including thousands of homes in Eddisbury and Cheshire are in fuel poverty. That is a massive 133 per-cent increase in the North West since 2003 – it is a national disgrace that so many pensioners are forced to choose between heating or eating. Conservatives are determined to tackle this injustice and deliver a fair deal for people living in Eddisbury, Cheshire and the North West.
“By embracing new technologies, we can keep energy bills down, carbon emissions can be reduced and new green jobs will be created. It will also offer real help for families in our area and across the North West who are feeling the chill from Labour’s recession and struggling to make ends meet.
“It’s a great idea to allow every household to have up to £6,500 worth of insulation fitted in their house, at no upfront cost. These types of sensible measures are much more cost effective than pursuing unreliable and expensive wind energy projects as it would deliver instant reductions in energy bills and dramatically cut the carbon footprint of every home in Eddisbury, Cheshire and the North West.”
